Pono Hanson comes from a diverse athletic background, including varsity-level and Division I running. Growing up in Hawai‘i, he developed a deep love for the outdoors and the water, a connection that naturally led him to triathlon. Since beginning his triathlon journey in 2016, Pono has gained extensive race experience across all distances, from sprint to full Ironman. His accomplishments include multiple full Ironman and half-Ironman finishes, highlighted by appearances at the 2022 Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawai‘i, and the 2024 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Taupō, New Zealand.
Outside of sport, Pono is a professional engineer, bringing a data-driven and analytical mindset to coaching. He believes in building consistent, sustainable training plans that balance athletic goals with life’s many demands, whether that’s work, recovery, or
